PROJECT STATEMENT:
Liminal Spaces is the provisional title of my digital series shot with a Nikon D850 in South Florida on foggy twilight mornings. Once a trailer park, the site was destroyed by Hurricane Ian and left the once carefully manicured landscape reclaimed as wild overgrown foliage. I focused on the fleeting moments when darkness is illuminated by light, a process reminiscent of developing film in a darkroom where an image appears from nothing and is one of the most spectacular visual experiences in a day. It’s a time associated with poetry, horror, the supernatural and aso refers to Romantic landscape painting. My goal is always the same, to achieve freedom in my photographic practice from inner and external restrictions. I applied the new freedom that I found previously experimenting with AI applications on my more traditional street style photography here. My goal was to bring that sense of visual and technical adventure back to my traditional digital work. My other goal is to practice a more professional presentation for some portfolio reviews at more commercial galleries that I have scheduled at my choice venues in Toronto.
BIO:
Hello, my name is Nancy Oliveri and I’m a fine art photographer born in Providence, RI 1958. I studied film & photography at the Hartford Art School in CT in the early 80’s and was most influenced by surrealism, conceptual art, cinematic montage, experimental filmmaking and psychology. I have exhibited my work in Europe and the US and am the recipient of numerous international awards for my photo books, fine art photography and AI models created from my archives. A retired psychotherapist, I’m spending my time between Toronto and South Florida and think of my work as an exploration of locations or places and my goal is to capture cultural, historical, unseen and spiritual history with my camera.
