Election 2020: What Matters

curated by Billy Howard

I think we can all agree that the election in November will be remembered as one of the most important in our lives.
In the next 4 issues of South x Southeast Magazine we want you to show us what matters.
Be it climate change, care for the elderly and disabled, child care, women’s rights, immigration, voting rights, tax reform, homelessness, the arts, protection of our waters, protection of our national parks, education, our food, or health care, if it is an issue that affects our lives, we want to see, and hear, your response.
We are all looking for a way to contribute, to make a difference, to have a voice in this country. This call for work is one way South x Southeast can contribute to the conversation by giving its readers an opportunity to not only share their art but their heart as well.

We communicate in both words and images, when the two are combined it becomes a language that enters through our eyes and our minds simultaneously, each adding resonance to the other and flooding our senses with meaning.

We are asking you to share your vision, and your words, on what your dream is for America in the next four years.

What we are looking for:

•An image with accompanying essay and/or artist statement

•A series of up to 15 images with essay and/or artist statement

•A book project with your statement about why it is important

•Any original idea that combines words and images.

The point is to give you a voice, both through your photographs and your words, to express your hopes and fears for the next four years.

And we’ll do our best to put these issues in the hands of those who want our votes.

2 submissions/ $20.
