Join award-winning photography editor, and curator, Molly Roberts, on Saturday, June 10th, for a workshop focusing on long-term photography projects. In this workshop we will discuss and work with the content, structure, and sequencing of images needed to make your project strong and ready for publication, exhibition, or portfolio.

We will look at various examples of powerful projects to inspire you including narrative, non-fiction, and imaginative storytelling series.

Individual portfolio reviews with Molly on Sunday June 11th, noon to 5.

Molly Roberts

Molly Roberts is a visual communications professional residing in Baltimore, Maryland. She has worked in the DC metropolitan area as a photographer, photography editor, and director of photography at The Washington Post, Smithsonian Magazine, and National Geographic Magazine. She has curated exhibitions for SXSE Gallery, Photoworks Gallery, 1448 Gallery, Artworks Gallery, and others. In 2019 she was awarded a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation fellowship  to study and teach photography and multimedia at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She received a masters degree in Visual Communication in 2021.

Roberts has led workshops in photo editing for long term visual projects and photo books. She taught photography, photojournalism, and photo-editing at Ohio University and Loyola University. Committed to the power of visual communication to educate and inform, Roberts created Humaneyes USA, a small non-profit using artistic and innovative approaches to inspire informed discussion, encourage civic engagement, and create solutions for pressing American issues. 

Roberts continues to teach and mentor photographers through her work with Women photojournalists of Washington, Social Documentary Network, and La Luz Workshops.

AGENDA:

Friday evening, June 9th:

Dinner on the Farm, at South x Southeast Gallery, Molena, Georgia. Get to know your fellow workshop students, and Molly, over a farm-to-table meal.

Cocktails: 5pm, followed by Dinner at 6:30.

Saturday: June 10th:

Breakfast biscuits, coffee, tea, and juice in the Gallery at 8am. Workshop begins promptly at 9.

Lunch will be served 12-1.

Workshop continues 1-4.

5-8pm Opening Reception for Southern Landscapes : Southern Light in the Gallery. Nosh and beverages will be served.

Sunday, June 11th:

30 minute portfolio reviews, beginning at noon through 5:00. You may schedule your time as you register by emailing nancy@sxsemagazine.com. First come, first served.

Light fare (sandwiches, fruit, salad, coffee, tea) will be available, self-serve, at the Gallery kitchen during the hours of the portfolio reviews, 12-5. The gallery will be open for students during this time.
